Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 with Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 platform launched for 999

Google has launched the second edition of its Google Glass Enterprise Edition for $999 (approx Rs 70,000) in the US. As the name suggests, it's aimed at workers in industries like logistics and manufacturing to help them be more efficient at their jobs. Workers can use Glass to access checklists, view instructions or send inspection photos or videos. It comes equipped with a USB-C port for charging and is built on Android.

“Glass Enterprise Edition 2 helps businesses further improve the efficiency of their employees. As our customers have adopted Glass, we’ve received valuable feedback that directly informed the improvements in Glass Enterprise Edition 2,” Google said in a blog. The latest wearable is equipped with safety frames by Smith Optics, and is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 platform, which features a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) engine.

Google says that the Glass Enterprise Edition 2 features an improved camera performance and quality. “We’re committed to providing enterprises with the helpful tools they need to work better, smarter and faster. Enterprise businesses interested in using Glass Enterprise Edition 2 can contact our sales team or our network of Glass Enterprise solution partners starting today. We’re excited to see how our partners and customers will continue to use Glass to shape the future of work,” the company said.

In comparison, Microsoft’s HoloLens 2, which is also used by businesses, starts at a whopping $3,500 (Rs 2.43 lakh approx). Unveiled in February, Microsoft’s solution is more powerful than Google Glass. It overlays information on top of the real world, which gives the impression that the information is “floating.” Further, the info can be viewed through both eyes. Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 only has one small projector that sits in front of one glass and displays information on it.
