Check out these behind-the-scenes photos from the upcoming Game of Thrones documentary

Game of Thrones Season 8 has left fans polarised with over a million people signing a petition to ask for a reshoot of the final season of the popular TV series. But that’s really unlikely to happen. While there won’t be any more new episodes of the show, HBO will be airing a documentary around season 8 which might hold some answers to what went down with the show’s main characters throughout the six episodes.

Called Game of Thrones: The Last Watch, The documentary is set to air a week after the May 19 season finale and is directed by acclaimed British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay, who spent a year on the set during the shoot of the final season of Game of Thrones. The documentary has a run time of two hours and will air on HBO on May 26.

HBO claims the documentary “deep dives into the mud and blood to reveal the tears and triumphs involved in the challenge of bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life in the very real studios, fields and car-parks of Northern Ireland.”

HBO also released a few photos from the documentary which include a peek at the Battle of Winterfell, the epic showdown between the living and the dead where you can see the battlefield being set up in front of a giant green screen. Another photo shows Kit Harrington (Jon Snow), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Rory McCann (The Hound). Check out the whole gallery here.
